Lowcountry Food Bank Asks the Lowcountry to Take Action to End Hunger

Published

on

This September, the Lowcountry Food Bank, together with the Feeding America nationwide network of food banks, will mobilize across all 50 states in an effort to fight hunger during Hunger Action Month. Hunger Action Month is designed to inspire people to take action and raise awareness of the fact that 41 million Americans, including nearly 13 million children, are food insecure.

In coastal South Carolina, over 200,000 people struggle with hunger and may not know where they will get their next meal. That number includes more than 53,000 children who may not have enough to eat.

The Lowcountry Food Bank has the following activities planned to engage the community in hunger relief and awareness building in September:
  • 28 Days to Fill the Plate campaign – We are reaching out to our community and to local restaurants using social and traditional media, and peer to peer fundraising, to encourage people to donate in September and help fill the plates of people who are hungry. • As part of Hunger Action Month, Hunger Action Day takes place on Thursday, September 13th. We are asking local media to wear orange, the national color that represents the fight against hunger, to support and help raise awareness of hunger issues in the Lowcountry.
“Everyone can make a difference in the fight against hunger during Hunger Action Month through volunteering, donating or sharing information through social media,” said Pat Walker, Lowcountry Food Bank President and CEO. “People can find the way that’s right for them to take action and help Fill the Plate.”
