2nd Annual Anime Film Fest at the Charleston Music Hall on March 2nd

After a very successful first year event back in June, the Charleston Music Hall will present their 2nd Annual Anime Film Festival on Saturday, March 2, 2019. This fest will be an all-day event starting at 11 am and going until 9 pm.

The venue will be screening My Neighbor Totoro, Grave of Fireflies, Your Name, and Akira (all films will be the English Dubbed versions). The Music Hall is flying in a special projector to be able to play the films in the highest quality possible.

Ice Bing will be serving up some food and treats in the lobby (including Iced Coffees with Totoro designs on the foam). Plus, Captain’s Comics will be selling comic books and specialty items along with other vendors in the upstairs lobby.

The Music Hall encourages everyone to dress up in their favorite super hero/anime/manga/cosplay outfits.

Admission to each film will be $12 or you can buy a 4 film pass for $40 (complimentary specialty poster included). Click here for ticket information.

My Neighbor Totoro

Synopsis: This acclaimed animated tale by director Hayao Miyazaki follows schoolgirl Satsuke and her younger sister, Mei, as they settle into an old country house with their father and wait for their mother to recover from an illness in an area hospital. As the sisters explore their new home, they encounter and befriend playful spirits in their house and the nearby forest, most notably the massive cuddly creature known as Totoro.


Grave of Fireflies

Synopsis: A devastating meditation on the human cost of war, this animated tale follows Seita (Tsutomu Tatsumi), a teenager charged with the care of his younger sister, Setsuko (Ayano Shiraishi), after an American firebombing during World War II separates the two children from their parents. Their tale of survival is as heartbreaking as it is true to life. The siblings rely completely on each other and struggle against all odds to stay together and stay alive.

He battles anti-government activists, greedy politicians, irresponsible scientists and a powerful military leader until Tetsuo’s supernatural powers suddenly manifest. A final battle is fought in Tokyo Olympiad exposing the experiment’s secrets.
