Celebrate National Library Week with the Friends of the Library

Published

on

National Library Week is April 7th through April 13th and the Charleston Friends of the Library are planning a month-long celebration of events that highlight the valuable role libraries, librarians and library workers play in transforming lives and communities.

“Libraries are more than book repositories,” Brittany Mathis, Executive Director of the Charleston Friends of the Library, said. “They transform lives and communities every day by providing patrons safe spaces to engage in civic discussions; tools to access and evaluate online news sources; services to meet the needs of a digitally evolving society; and collaborative programs and resources for teachers to foster student success.”

Below is a list of events hosted by the Charleston Friends of the Library in honor of National Library Week:

  • Tuesday, April 9th
    • The Charleston Friends of the Library will host its 4th annual “Books for Bier” event.  Like its name implies, bring a gently used book to Bay Street Biergarten between 5:30 pm and 8 pm and receive one free beer! Plus, any child who brings a children’s book to donate will receive a free root beer! (Limit one beverage per person).  Admission is free and the Charleston Friends of the Library will be on site selling books and will have amazing silent auction items for attendees to bid on.
  • Friday, April 12th
    • The Library Foundation of the Lowcountry is partnering with the Charleston Friends of the Library to present a film screening of The Public followed by a panel discussion on homelessness and the role of the public library. The event starts at 7 pm at the Terrace Theater. Tickets are $12 for general admission and $10 for members of the Charleston Friends of the Library. • Friday, April 26th
    • Please join the Friends for a One Day Pop Up Book Sale on Friday, April 26th at the Mt. Pleasant Regional Library (9 am – 5 pm)
