Local Nonprofit to Host Resource Fair for Parents with Special Needs Kids

Published

Unique Minds, a local nonprofit organization dedicated to assisting families and parents of children with special needs, will host The Special Needs Resource Fair, their first major event in the Charleston area, on May 4th at 12:30 pm at the Otranto Library in North Charleston.

This event specifically targets parents of children with autism, or other special needs, connecting them directly with organizations and businesses in the Lowcountry that can assist them. The founder of the organization, Tameka Carn, is a parent of a special needs child, and attributes that to her reasoning for founding the organization.

“With having a child with autism, I can personally relate to the difficulty one can experience with trying to find help,” Carn said. “I started this organization to be that crutch for so many parents out there that are struggling. The organization’s purpose is to connect parents of children with special needs with appropriate and reliable resources to help their children and families.”

The event will feature organizations prepared to discuss topics such as health and wellness, finances, legal assistance, and so much more to properly arm families with the necessary information and guidance they need to provide for their children.

The event will also include guest speakers, including other parents sharing their journeys of raising a child with special needs.

The event is free to the public, with additional opportunities available for businesses interested in featuring information in the event swag bags, or by making a donation. Unique Minds is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, so any donations made are all tax deductible.

The Otranto Library is located at 2261 Otranto Road.
