The Charleston Forum’s CEO Recognized for Leadership

The Charleston Forum’s CEO Brian Duffy has been named the recipient of the Atlantic Institute’s 2019 Peace and Dialogue Award in recognition of his efforts to foster meaningful dialogue and change in his community. This year’s Peace and Dialogue Award Dinner was held on Thursday, April 25th at the Citadel Holliday Alumni Center and focused on people and organizations in the Lowcountry who strive to increase diversity and build intercultural relationships through public service.

“The Charleston Forum’s goal is to help our community overcome racial barriers we continue to face in our communities,” Duffy said. “I’m honored to be recognized, but we have a long way to go, and I’m excited for what this year’s forum is going to bring.”

Professionals from a variety of backgrounds joined in the celebration of community leadership. Former Mayor Joe Riley was the keynote speaker and Peter Shahid served as the Master of Ceremonies.

The Charleston Forum is a community project that strives to provide a dialogue on race that moves the conversation forward, with no pre-set agenda but with a common purpose.  The Charleston Forum began in 2016 as a group of local political, business, educational and religious leaders who wanted to provide an outlet to discuss race across many different topics. The Forum has received significant collective support from Charleston leaders including Mayor John Tecklenburg, former Mayor Joe Riley, Reverend Joe Darby and many others.
