Rep. Cunningham Votes to Pass the Climate Action Now Act

Rep. Joe Cunningham voted Thursday to pass H.R. 9, the Climate Action Now Act, bipartisan legislation that would keep the U.S. in the Paris Climate Agreement and honor our commitment to reduce carbon emissions.

“Addressing climate change is an urgent national security imperative, plain and simple,” Rep. Joe Cunningham, said. “The House took bipartisan action to tackle this threat head on and ensure America remains a leader in clean energy and job growth. Here in the Lowcountry, we know that mitigating the effects of rising sea levels, flooding, and harsher storm systems isn’t a partisan issue, it’s common sense. The future of coastal communities like ours depends upon us working together, and I urge my colleagues in the Senate to pass this bipartisan legislation as soon as possible.”

Prior to passage by the House of Representatives, Cunningham gave a speech on the House floor urging his colleagues to put people over politics.

“I had hoped that my colleagues from across the aisle would want to engage on a constructive dialogue that addresses the devastating impacts of flooding, and storms, and rising sea levels,” Rep. Joe Cunningham said on the House floor. “There are certain things that go beyond politics. Impacts that touch all of us regardless of our party affiliation or our ideology. Climate change is one of them. The Lowcountry knows this better than most.”
