Pure Theatre Presents Original Solo Comedy Show During Piccolo Spoleto Festival
Comedian Andy Livengood is teaming up with Pure Theatre’s R.W. Smith to present “Butcher Stories,” a comedy show taking place during this year’s Piccolo Spoleto Festival.
Based off of the hit blog and featuring 100% real interactions with insane customers, Livengood will take audiences on a hilarious and heartfelt tour of strange coworkers, clueless managers, and crazy customers.
Livengood plays Alex, a directionless twenty-year-old kid who spends his days manning a meat counter at the local grocery store. When an unexpected promotion falls into his lap, Alex must decide if he wants to follow his dreams or take on the stable career as a butcher.
A regular in the Charleston comedy scene, audiences will know Livengood from his work at Theatre 99. He is excited to be partnering with Pure Theatre to create a theatrical one man show.
“It’s unlike anything I’ve ever done,” Livengood said. “I play every character; every customer, and every employee. Everything in the show is based on reality. Customer interactions are taken almost word for word, events in the show are actual things that have happened to me, and the characters are all based on real people.”
“While the focus of the show is the hysterical customer interactions, at it’s core it’s a coming of age journey of self discovery surrounded by the insanity of working retail,” director R.W. Smith said. “Andy brings such a great mixture of openness and vulnerability combined with perfect comedic timing. This show will be a fun ride for the audience.”
Show dates are May 29th (8 pm), May 30th (9 pm), and June 2nd (4 pm). Tickets can be purchased here.
Pure Theatre at The Cannon Street Arts Center is located at 134 Cannon Street.
