“TOP GUN: An American Story” Author and Founder to Speak at Patriots Point
On Thursday, May 30th at 7 pm, the USS Yorktown Foundation will welcome best-selling author Dan Pedersen, founder of the US Navy Fighter Weapons School, aka “Top Gun,” to Patriots Point Naval and Maritime Museum.
Pedersen will share the riveting and little known story of the creation of this internationally-renowned program in his newly-released book TOP GUN: An American Story. The presentation will be in the Smokey Stover Theater aboard the WWII aircraft carrier USS Yorktown (CV-10). Tickets are $10 and available on Eventbrite.
During the Vietnam War, on a shoestring budget, and with little official support, Pedersen handpicked 8 of the finest fighter pilots and developed the TOP GUN program to train a new generation to bend jets like the F-4 Phantom to their will. In TOP GUN: An American Story, the founder of the famous program tells the inside story for the first time, from Miramar to Area 51. This year marks the 50th Anniversary of the US Navy Fighter Weapons School, and the legacy continues today.
You can purchased the book here.
