Family-Owned Summerville Eatery Serves Up Mighty Good Grub

By: Jeff Walker, Business Writer

For those of us who love to eat out, we understand food doesn’t have to be fancy, nor does it have to be high brow. At our core, most of us are simple meat and potatoes kind of people, food lovers who crave two things when we dine out. We want our meal to be appropriately priced for the portion set before us, and first and foremost the food must be pretty damn good.

When you have that combination you have a recipe for success. Positioned across from the Summerville’s town square, at the intersection of South Main and West Richardson, ‘Off the Chain Sandwich Shoppe’ aka OTC checks all the right boxes. They offer up a good mix of burgers, sandwiches, wraps, sides, and salads all priced under $11.

Open since early February 2019, OTC like to say ‘come and get your grub on’, which in layman’s terms mean ‘enjoy good food and leave satisfied’. The quaint eatery in historic Flowertown is a family affair. Husband and wife team Dillon (kitchen) and Toni (dining room) Zenobi, own and operate OTC, with full time help from their grown daughter Tiffany. While Dillon has a culinary degree, Toni has spent the better part of 20 years managing well known national eateries. Together they bring that experience into their own restaurant.

Aside from the buns and sliced cheeses, almost every thing on the menu is made in house, including their signature sauces, as well as Beer Bratwurst, Sausage Dogs, and the all beef Junkyard Dog complete with all the fixin’s. OTC celebrates southern favorites, low country appetites, and Americana staples, all under one roof. A simple and stated menu for sure.

Beef lovers take note, their namesake OTC Burger is awesome. A juicy third pound chunk of beef layered in bacon, cheddar cheese, and BBQ sauce with a zesty horseradish mayo. Order just as it’s depicted on the menu, or you’re not getting an original OTC Burger. The Bleu Cheese Burger and Mushroom Swiss are equally appetizing. All come with crispy hand cut fries.

Looking for a quick bite or what OTC call ‘snacka-teasers’, than you might enjoy Buffalo Ranch Fries w/ Bleu Cheese Crumbles, Sliders, or my new favorite Jalapeno Popper Dip complete with a cream and cheddar cheese medley swirled around bacon bits, served with seasoned tortilla chips. A great snack or a way to whet the appetite for the main course.

OTC offer an eclectic menu, including everyday European inspired dishes, such as Soup Du Jour, French Dip Sandwich, and a Meatball Grinder. Classic yesteryear diner foods comprise of BLT’s House Salads, & everyone’s go to dish ‘Cheese & Mac’, which promises to be more cheesier than it is elbowed with macaroni.

If chicken is your top pick, OTC has five specific items on the menu. From the sandwich board maybe try the Yardbird Sammie with your choice of cheese and spicy sauce, or select one of four house wraps layered with chicken strips, and variety of veggies, condiments, and or homemade sauces. All under $9. To keep you guessing they sometimes stray from the norm and offer some desired local treasures. Have the kids in tow, there are five Kid’s Meal choices priced at $5 each.

At OTC you can get a good mix of comfort food (grub) that will fill you up without emptying your wallet. If you’re over 21 they carry a array of beers and wines to complement any dish. They provide an ample dining hall as well as a covered patio. If you’re in Summerville for work, or catching a show at the adjacent Flowertown Players Theatre, perhaps drop in for some OTC (Off The Charts) awesome food from OTC aka ‘Off The Chain’ Sandwich Shoppe.
