Roper St. Francis Healthcare’s Ryan White Wellness Center and Mitchell Hill Gallery to host 10th annual Art in the City

Roper St. Francis Healthcare’s Ryan White Wellness Center and Mitchell Hill Gallery are proud to present the 10th annual Art in the City at Redux Contemporary Art Center on Friday, June 28th from 6 pm to 8 pm. Proceeds will directly benefit the Ryan White Wellness Center, the tri-county’s only one-stop-shop for low-to-no cost HIV and STI care.

The event will auction off one-of-a-kind artwork and raffle items donated by professional and budding artists. The night will feature festive live performances, music by DJ Trevor D, tasty hors d’oeuvres, and local libations. Guests are encouraged to wear their best summer white attire.

Attendees can participate in silent auctions and luck of the draw raffles for a chance to win donated pieces, including paintings, jewelry, artisan crafts, photography prints and much more. Some highlights of the silent auction are a trip for two to Asheville with hotel, food, wine tasting and a tour of the Biltmore, as well as a private dinner party for up to 10 guests by Master Chef Season 8 Contestant and local artist, Jennifer Williams. Participating artists include Fallon Pepper, J.K. Crum, Lisa Shimko, Susan Irish, Harley Richards, and many more.
Tickets are $20 per person and can be purchased in advance online here. The cost of admission includes five raffle tickets, appetizers and an open bar.
Doors to Freedom, an organization that provides a safe place for survivors of sex trafficking to experience a transformed life have donated a painting and bracelets that they sell to raise awareness for sex trafficking survivors.
Local makeup artist Kelly James will be doing a makeup tutorial and giving guests special silver eye shadow in honor of the event’s silver anniversary.
Art in the City coincides with National HIV Testing Day on June 27th. The Ryan White Wellness Center will support the day by partnering with Greater Than AIDS and Walgreens to offer free HIV testing at the Walgreens King Street location.
Artist Susan Irish is donating two pieces, including a collaboration with artist Nicolás Lyford-Pike, who lives with deafness and autism. The piece was specially created for the 10th anniversary Art in the City event, combining Summer Solstice star diagrams made by Nicolás and labeled in Latin.
“Having a piece of Nicolás’ art in a Ryan White Wellness Center event makes sense to me because both young men are superheroes,” Susan Irish, Charleston aritst of Fabulon Art Gallery, said. “Ryan White was a sweet, loving boy that I hope the world never forgets. Nicolás is a daily affirmation that each person has a purpose and a value. Tour the Ryan White Wellness Center and you’ll see that this place is what good healthcare should look like and what the power of a positive attitude can do for a person.”

About the Ryan White Wellness Center

The Ryan White Wellness Center is operated by Roper St. Francis Healthcare. The center is a sexual health non-profit organization focusing on wellness, education and advocacy. It is the only one-stop-shop in the area for clinical and supportive services for those who are HIV positive and/or at-risk. All services are free to those who qualify. The organization’s vision is to foster an HIV-free generation through quality care, case management, prevention, outreach and advocacy.
