North Charleston to Hold Grand Opening for new Transit Center
On Monday, August 26th at 10 am, Mayor Keith Summey, North Charleston City Council, and representatives from regional and national transit authorities will celebrate the grand opening and ribbon cutting for the new North Charleston Transit Center at 4565 Gaynor Avenue.
“North Charleston is undoubtedly the hub to the Lowcountry,” Mayor Summey said. “Whether traveling by car, plane, or train, all passes through our city. The culmination of years of work, the City has replaced the dated Amtrak station built in the 1950s. We proudly thank our project partners, the Federal Transit Administration, Amtrak, Southeastern Stages, CARTA, Charleston County, BCD COG, and the community of Liberty Hill.”
To service more than travelers, the Center includes community meeting space and a Liberty Hill Historical Room to appropriately tell the tale of the oldest free black community in the state of South Carolina. The rich history will be shared with all who enter the Lowcountry through the new Transit Center.
