Hurricane Dorian Update: 9/3/19

While we wait for Hurricane Dorian to make it’s way north, now is a good time to finalize plans (if you haven’t already) and review some important info.

This guide should help you before, during, and after the storm:

BEFORE

• Pay attention to local media and the National Weather service for the most accurate forecast updates
  • Be careful when looking for info on social media
    • Check dates/times on social media posts as Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram tend to post ‘popular’ posts in your feed that are many hours old.
• Highway lane reversals are also in affect. The zones being evacuation are: Colleton Zones A, B; Beaufort Zone A; Jasper Zone A; Charleston Zones A, B, C; Dorchester Zone D; Berkeley Zones B, G; Horry Zone A Georgetown Zone A . For more information on evacuation routes and zones, click here.

  • SCDOT says I-26 lane reversal operations will cease on Wednesday at noon
• Folly Beach will limit access beginning Tuesday at 4 pm

• The city of Charleston is offering free parking in several city garages through the duration of the storm
  • The city of Mt. Pleasant says that the Portside Ferry Wharf Parking Deck located at the foot of the Ravenel Bridge, will be free of charge starting at 2 pm

• In Charleston, you can connect to 9-1-1 by calling, texting, or going online. You’re asked to “CALL if you can, TEXT if you can’t, CONNECT if you must at 911HelpMe.com”
  • Only use 9-1-1 for actual emergencies

• Remember – “Turn around, don’t drown!” Don’t drive through flood waters!
  • SCEMD: “Most Hurricane deaths are the result of drownings. Don’t gamble with your life by walking or driving through flood waters.”
