The Charleston Parks Conservancy will kick off the holiday season with the annual tree lighting and winter celebration at Colonial Lake on Friday, December 6th. Admission and holiday activities are free, and the event is rain or shine.

The Light the Lake event, which runs from 5 pm to 7:30 pm, is family-friendly and includes holiday cookie decorating, a festive photo booth, food trucks, and a letters to Santa station. Guests are encouraged to wear their best (or worst!) Christmas sweater for the ugly sweater contest. Plus, the Charleston Model Yacht Club will have model boats sailing on Colonial Lake.

Food trucks include Independent Coffee Grounds, Kickin’ Chicken, Braised in the South, Pita Stroller, Roti Rolls, Pure Fluff Co., and T&T Original Kettle Korn. DJ Ede will be playing everyone’s favorite holiday music. The evening culminates with the lighting of the tree in the center of Colonial Lake by Mayor John Tecklenburg and a performance by the Meeting Street Watoto Charleston Ensemble.

Everyone is invited to bring a new, unwrapped toy to fill Santa’s carriage with donations for Toys for Tots.

For more than 10 years, the Conservancy – through public-private partnerships – has had a hand in renovating and beautifying more than 25 parks in the City of Charleston. Notable projects include the complete renovation of Colonial Lake, the renovation of the Rose Pavilion at Hampton Park as well as Allan Park, Wragg Square, McMahon Playground at Hampton Park, Magnolia Park and Community Garden, Marion Square, and Medway Park and Community Garden.
