Charleston Interfaith Religious Council Announces Interfaith Harmony Month

The Charleston Interreligious Council (CIC) last week announced plans for a January 2020 observance of Interfaith Harmony Month and invites area groups to participate in the month-long initiative intended to engage faith-based communities in events that promote dialogue and a fuller understanding of Charleston’s diverse faith traditions.

Some of the events already planned for the January observance include:

  • December 30th at 6:30 pm – “A Gathering of Faiths” at Seacoast Church West Ashley Campus, 2049 Savannah Highway, hosted by the CIC in partnership with the Charleston 350 Commission
  • December 31st at 12 pm – “Watch Night Service” at Morris Brown AME Church, 13 Morris Street, hosted by the Gullah Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor Commission
  • January 1st at 11 am – “Emancipation Proclamation Parade” starting at Burke High School, moving east on Sumter to King Street, south on King to Calhoun Street, ending at Marion Square, hosted by the Charleston Emancipation Proclamation Association
  • January 12th at 2 pm – “Sacred Space Tour” starting at Second Presbyterian Church, 342 Meeting Street, followed by St Matthew’s Lutheran Church, 405 King Street, ending with refreshments
  • January 27th, at 6:30 pm – “Food and Faith Program,”at Arnold Hall, 96 Wentworth Street, Muslim and Jewish communities’ presentation on Women in Faith, followed by a halal and kosher meal

The Charleston Interreligious Council seeks to build bridges of understanding to promote sensitivity, tolerance, respect, and fellowship among religious groups in Charleston.
