East Cooper Eatery Offers Food & Beverage Delights Morning, Noon & Early Evening

By: Jeff Walker, Business Review

Nicely tucked behind Six Mile Station home to Harris Teeter and Hobby Lobby in Mount Pleasant, you’ll discover a whimsical European style eatery called Sena Cafe. Well hidden from traffic on 17N, Sena Cafe is a food and beverage diamond in the rough, easily one of the low country’s most hidden culinary gems.

Owned and operated by husband and wife, Sena and Ogi Jovic, Sena Cafe scores high in every category, including quality, customer service, and ambiance. The Yugoslavian natives were fortunate to leave their troubled country in 1995, making their home in St. Louis where they honed their skills, before relocating to Mount Pleasant a few years back.

Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner 7-9pm most days, and until 5pm Monday and Sunday Sena Cafe offers up menus reflecting Italy, the Mediterranean, with a hint of American, southern and low country favorites. Whether you prefer a hearty early morning meal, a lite bite, or have an appetite more or less in between, than Sena has something for everyone.

Among their house-made delicacies are seven signature sandwiches including their own version of the Philly Cheese Steak aka the Prime Rib & Swiss Sandwich. Sena’s Spicy is an Italian favorite oozing with pepperoni and mozzarella on artisan bread, topped with their own secret sauce. The St. Louis Primo Sandwich is a carnivore lovers delight. Four Italian smoked meats layered under mozzarella and a balsamic glaze. Need I say more.

A half dozen signature wraps and paninis are strewn on the bill of fare. Locals looking for a bit of seafood with a kick, might prefer the Power Shrimp Wrap. A dozen julienne (long thin strips) cut veggies surrounding chili shrimp and mango chutney, all blanketed in a fresh flatbread. Sweet and spicy all in the same bite. The Lobster Roll served with mixed greens on a brioche bun should be equalling appealing to seafood lovers. Both amazing!

Vegans have several options at Sena Cafe including a nice Chipotle Black Bean Burger or three different salads. The Healthy Choice Kale Salad complete with sunflower seeds, dried cranberries is tempting as is the Power Veggie, 12 julienne cut vegetables tossed in mango chutney. Non vegans can get their salads with grilled chicken or shrimp.

Perhaps one of the most health conscious items on the menu is the ‘low carb’ Keto Cado. Diced grilled chicken tossed with avocado, bell pepper, tomato, and cucumber drenched in an olive oil lemon juice medley. It’s presented in two avocado shells straddled with strips of bacon. High on protein and really high on the yummy meter.

Regulars have been flocking to Sena Cafe for over 18 months, apparently due to their eclectic menu, exceptional customer service, pleasant décor’, and affordable quality food. Most breakfast items are around or under $6, including the Belgian Pearl Waffles and the Egg White Sausage Croissant. Normal midday fare falls between $7 and $11, with the Lobster Rolls at $16 topping out the menu.

Sena Cafe is a cross between a European sidewalk eatery and a light-hearted coffee shop. You can spend more at the chain caffeine places, or between $2 and $4 you can enjoy a nice cold or hot beverage including teas, espressos, cappuccinos, macchiatos, and regular & decaf coffees.

If you’re looking for something different, maybe a nice parfait & fruit cup, a chocolate croissant, a flaky baklava, strudel, or tiramisu to satisfy a sweet tooth, than Sena Cafe has you covered. All under $4. Almost all their menu items are made on site. Sena and Ogi invite casual food lovers to come in and discover their take on European and American delights. Uncover this hidden gem if you live, work or are visiting east of the Cooper.

If you’re putting their physical address in your GPS or Google Maps, than you’ll find Sena Cafe at 2170 Snyder Circle in Mount Pleasant. For more visit their website at https://www.senacafe.com/
