The Seat of Justice tells the remarkable story of South Carolina’s and Charleston’s pivotal roles in the landmark 1954 Brown v. Board of Education Desegregation Ruling.

In 1947, a small group of parents in rural South Carolina set in motion a movement that would lead to the landmark Brown v. Board of Education Supreme Court decision. Julian Wiles’s acclaimed play that chronicles this courageous journey and played to sold-out houses in 2004, returns to tell the story of the historic Briggs v. Elliott desegregation case, wherein a group of heroic citizens, young and old, took their turn in the Seat of Justice and changed the world.
