Press Release

Charleston Battery, the oldest continuously run professional soccer organization in the U.S., unveiled its newest line of jerseys and apparel on Wednesday, in conjunction with an effort to support the Medical University of South Carolina’s fight against the COVID-19 outbreak in the Lowcountry.

While originally planned to launch with the start of the 2020 season in their new home stadium at Patriots Point, the release of the team’s new apparel and merchandise comes at a difficult time for the community with statewide orders to stay at home during the coronavirus outbreak.

In an effort to assist area healthcare providers while exciting fans leading up to the resumption of the 2020 season, the new apparel line launches with 10% of all proceeds being donated to the MUSC Foundation’s COVID-19 Emergency Relief Fund during the month of April.

“The players, the staff, and most importantly, our fans are excited for this new era of soccer in Charleston,” Scott Krenitski, Battery CRO and head of community engagement, said. “Our rebranding and new line of apparel is a big part of that. While we had hoped to have fans sporting our new logo and gear in the stands on opening day, the current environment has called everyone to action. We’re excited to support one of our longest-standing partners, MUSC, and the growing needs of our area’s healthcare workers who are putting in tireless hours on the frontline.”

The team unveiled a redesigned online proshop accessible through the shop.charlestonbattery.com website featuring jerseys, tees and more for men, women and youth. A portion of all merchandise sales during the month of April will be donated to the MUSC COVID-19 Emergency Response Fund which supports the expansion of remote screening sites, acquisition of essential medical supplies, and assists health care providers with unforeseen expenses at home while working onsite.

“The Charleston Battery is one of our longest-standing sports partners; we greatly appreciate their support of MUSC Health and our community during this time of need,” Michael J. Barr, Sports Medicine Manager at MUSC Health, said. “We are all excited for the rebranding of the Charleston Battery and the eventual start of the 2020 season.”

“Beyond our merchandise promotion, we plan to continue our support of MUSC’s COVID-19 Response Fund and everything they need to continue providing the essential services to the community at this time,” Krenitski said.
