Charleston Battery Launch New Initiatives Supporting MUSC COVID-19 Response

Published

on

The Charleston Battery this week launched two additional initiatives as part of its ongoing effort to support area healthcare workers during the COVID-19 outbreak in the Lowcountry.

The new initiatives include:

Holy City Heroes Limited Edition T-Shirt

The team designed a “Holy City Heroes” t-shirt (pictured) for fans to show support to all of the healthcare heroes involved in battling the current pandemic. The t-shirts will be produced as a limited edition item with $10 from every shirt being donated to the MUSC COVID-19 Emergency Response Fund. The fund supports the acquisition of essential medical supplies like personal protective equipment and assists MUSC Care Team Members with unforeseen expenses at home. Fans can preorder the exclusive t-shirt at the shop.charlestonbattery.com online store.

Meals for Care Team Members

The Battery also recently launched an online fundraising campaign to rally the community and provide meals onsite to MUSC Care Team members. By providing meals during or after a long shift, the fundraiser aims to alleviate any stress experienced by healthcare workers and give them one less thing to worry about. Additionally, meals will be sourced from locally-owned restaurants to support another area struggling in the current environment.

Donations to the fundraiser can be made through a new GoFundMe campaign setup here.

These new fundraising initiatives follow the Charleston Battery’s announcement that 10% of all merchandise sales during the month of April would be donated to MUSC’s COVID-19 Emergency Response Fund.

“The Charleston Battery is one of our longest-standing sports partners; we greatly appreciate their support of MUSC Health and our community during this time of need,” Michael J. Barr, Sports Medicine Manager at MUSC Health, said. “We are all excited for the rebranding of the Charleston Battery and the eventual start of the 2020 season.”

The limited edition “Holy City Heroes” t-shirt can be purchased here.
