Charleston County Government Begins Shift to Normal Operations

On Wednesday, May 13th, Charleston County buildings will resume public access for citizens daily from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. until further notice. At this time, citizens will not be required to wear a mask when they enter county buildings.

County employees will return to work on Monday, May 11 to address social distancing plans for individual offices and departments. Staff strongly encourage citizens to utilize our on-line systems, by phone or e-mail to use county services.

Charleston County Clerk of Court:

The Charleston County Judicial Complex will only be open to the public Monday – Friday between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.  All court filings must be left in the drop-box located in the lobby. Additionally, any Family Court purge payments and emergency filings must be done during this time period. Staff will also be available from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. by phone or email. Child support and alimony payments should be made to the South Carolina State Disbursement Unit in one of three ways:

Charleston County Probate Court:

Over the last seven weeks, the Charleston County Probate Court has remained open, virtually, in order to assist our citizens.  We plan to remain operational virtually.

Original filings regarding Wills and Estates may be mailed to the Probate Court, 84 Broad Street, Charleston, SC 29401.  The phone number is 843-958-5030.

Original filings regarding Guardian, Conservator and Trusts, Commitment Proceedings, Marriage Licenses and Problem Solving Courts, may be mailed to the Probate Court, 100 Broad Street, Suite 469, Charleston, SC 29401.  The phone number is 843-958-5180.

Please note that beginning Wednesday, May 13, you may also use the drop box in the lobby at 84 Broad Street from 10 am to 2 pm for now for any pleadings or filings with the Probate Court.

Additionally, the Charleston County Probate Court invites all to view our Virtual Estate Workshop, currently available on our website:  https://ccprobate.charlestoncounty.org/estate-planning.php. Judge Irvin G. Condon is available to answer questions every Monday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in a Zoom Town Hall Format.  Please call Jamie Robinson at 843-814-1707 for this Monday’s Zoom Link and details, and for upcoming Monday Town Hall Zoom meetings from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

Solid Waste Operations:

Recycling collections will continue to operate on a normal schedule – To protect the health and safety of our drivers, Charleston County Environmental Management will be collecting material contained inside the recycling cart ONLY. Do not leave material outside of your cart. Please flatten all cardboard boxes and cut them to size, if necessary. Overflow recyclable material may be dropped off at any one of Charleston County’s many dropsite locations.

Convenience Centers and Bees Ferry Landfill:

While our convenience centers and landfill are operating on a normal schedule, we request citizens practice safe social distancing when interacting with staff and other users of the facility. These sites are for Charleston County residents only and staff may ask for identification. Commercial businesses are prohibited from using convenience centers.

Board of Elections and Voter Registration:

Voters that wish to vote absentee by mail may request a ballot in the following ways:

We will start conducting in-person absentee voting for the June primary on Monday, May 11.

Hours:                   8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

We will be practicing social distancing and limiting the number of voters into the office to prevent the potential spread of COVID-19. Please be patient if you wish to vote at our office. Our goal is to ensure that all eligible voters have the opportunity to cast their ballot in safety.
