Save the Boobies!
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Supporting charities and events that raise money for breast cancer research and treatment is quite important to me, so there will be plenty of updates on this topic!
Sure, all the tongue-in-cheek names of the events and finally being able to wear pink without being teased are part of the fun, but the best part is supporting some great charities while having lots of fun!
There are sure to be plenty of events revolving around this issue throughout the month, none more important than the Komen Lowcountry Race for the Cure. This annual Daniel Island event raises thousands and thousands of dollars each year. If you haven’t already, sign up for the Komen Lowcountry Race for the Cure or donate!
There is also the Rockers4Knockers event on October 1st. The charitable concert features locals Sol Driven Train and Fowlers Mustache. Catch the show at the Bus Shed at the Charleston Visitor’s Center. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. Doors at 6, show at 7.
Before rocking out at the concert, stop by Wet Willies on King Street who will be hosting a Breast Cancer Awareness Party. Admission is free, but a $2 donation to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation will net you a pink ribbon. Too steep a price?You can get some pink beads for a $1 donation.
Also on October 1st will be the Sixth “In The Pink Breast Cancer Awareness Walk” at the Imaging Center at Waccamaw Medical Park in Murrells Inlet. Registration and details are HERE.
O’Brion’s Pub & Grille on Folly Road will host Integrative Cancer Care’s Breast Cancer Benefit. There will be a pasta buffet, live music, raffles, and drink specials.
Bluffton will host an event on October 8th. Lowcountry Rockin’ in the Pink Breast Cancer Walk will have it’s 2nd Annual event on this date. More details are HERE.
October 23rd has been designated as Pink Sunday. Many local churches will have events on this day. Details can be found HERE.
Although not a local franchise, Jersey Mike’s has been raising money for Komen and will continue to throughout October. They are taking donations and selling t-shirts at all of their locations.
I don’t know if there are any similar plans this year, but I really enjoyed when the U.S. Customs House was turned pink last year.
