#Occupy Charleston

That’s right, the “Occupy Movement” has spread all the way to our beloved city. The first Occupy Charleston sighting was a “mini march” this past Saturday through parts of downtown Charleston. It turns out the march was just a small preview. The real event will begin tomorrow (Wednesday, 10/19) at Brittlebank Park near Joe Riley Stadium at noon. That’s when Occupy Charleston will hold “99 Hours for the 99%”. For all you math whizzes out there that means the event ends on Sunday at 3 pm.

The sit-in is being advertised as a “family-friendly, peaceful, and powerful protest” which will feature art, food, live music, speakers, discussions, workshops, and much more.

To attend the event in any capacity, all you have to do is show up. There will be a tent city set-up for those of you who are in it for the long haul. If you can’t attend, you can still donate or promote the event via Facebook.

If you don’t agree with the group’s stance or can’t participate, it will still be an interesting site to see. However you feel, keep it peaceful!

Don’t know where you stand? You need to know what the Occupy movement about? Well, Occupy Charleston says on their website: “We will be occupying Brittlebank Park…in a show of solidarity with our sisters and brothers fighting the good fight up on Wall St, demanding accountability from corporate America for ruining our economy and demanding that they loose their iron hold on our politics.”
