10th Annual Blessing of the Vines Festival
The 10th Annual Blessing of the Vines ceremony is just six days away. The event, being held at the Irvin House Vineyards, is the yearly celebration where attendees send good vibes into the vineyard in hopes for a successful season. In other words, it’s another excuse to have a party out on Wadmalaw Island.
Oenophiles who attend will witness the blessing of muscadine grapevines by an actual priest, as well as live music, a gumbo cook-off, sugar cane crushing, and plenty of tasting opportunities from the Firefly Distillery. There will also be craft vendors and children’s activities throughout the event.
Here’s the full list of fun straight from the vineyard’s website:
12 pm – Bull Grapes band begins, come early to grab a prime spot
1 pm – Cane Creek band begins
2 pm – Blessing of the Vine, Father Greg
3 pm – Gumbo Judging
3:30 pm – Sugarcane Crushing
5 pm – Gumbo Winner Announced
After the 3 pm Gumbo Judging, you can sample 3 gumbos for $5.
If you want to enter the gumbo contest, email fran@fireflyvodka.com for more information. All proceeds benefit Frierson Elementary’s Afterschool Program.
So, be sure to pack your car full of friends as the event is only $10 per car.
