Press Release

Rick Durkee (right), founder and president of the Coastal Financial Planning Group, has been elected to the board of directors of the BBB Serving Central South Carolina and Charleston.

The local BBB serves 15 counties of South Carolina and Charleston. It is committed to being a leader in advancing marketplace trust and helping people find businesses, brands, and charities they can trust in South Carolina’s Midlands and Lowcountry regions.

Durkee is new to the BBB board of directors. He said, “Just like the BBB, I believe strongly in marketplace trust. I look forward to helping consumers and businesses in my role to serve the BBB in the areas of financial management, investment advice and membership.”

Since founding the Coastal Financial Planning Group in 2003, Durkee has served his clients and the community by offering advanced retirement planning solutions for individuals and business owners.

Durkee earned his reputation as a strategist in retirement planning and asset management by adopting an approach called income allocation, a financial planning concept that focuses on developing a written retirement income plan to address any income shortfalls that may occur in ones retirement life span, while avoiding some of the biggest risks in retirement including longevity risk, market risk and market sequence of returns risk.

He also hosts two podcasts: Navigating Retirement and Christian Business Values.

Durkee recently achieved the Retirement Income Certified Professional (RICP) designation from the American College of Financial Services. He earned his bachelor’s degree in business management/marketing from the University of South Carolina in 1981. Professionally, he holds a Series 65 securities registration, as well as the Life, Health and Disability insurance license for South Carolina along with several other states in which he serves his clients. He and his wife Violet have lived in West Ashley over the last 20 years.

BBB sets standards for ethical business behavior and monitors compliance. Almost 400,000 accredited businesses meet and commit to its high standards. In addition, BBB helps consumers identify trustworthy (and untrustworthy) businesses through more than 4 million BBB business reviews. Learn more at www.bbb.org/us/sc/charleston.
